Sep. 28th, 2004 08:31 pmA spell ripped through the air and tore into the rotting wood over Tonks' shoulder, hitting the spot where her head had been just a moment before.
She dove to the floor, quickly tucking herself behind a stack of crates.
This is absolutely brilliant, she thought grimly, wiping away a rivulet of blood from her cheek. No bloody idea where Kingsley's gone, and I'm fucking cornered in a fucking warehouse by three fucking Death Eaters.
A harsh laugh came from the other end of the cavernous room.
"Come out, come out, little Auror," taunted one of the Death Eaters. Halloway, Tonks thought to herself. "Wouldn't you like to have a chat with us? Find out what our Master is up to, these days?"
Tonks ignored him and shifted silently, trying to ignore the sharp pain in her ribs as she did so. She eyed the room, or as much of it as she could, and quickly ran through her options.
Option one. There was a door on the far side, about ten meters down -- she might be able to make that, if the door would unlock. No telling in a Death Eater hideout what sort of Dark spells they might've put on it.
Option two. She could wait, and fend them off from behind the crates until Kingsley arrived...well, if he arrived. And really, the crates weren't looking all that protective, at the moment.
The continual sound of the three Death Eaters talking, nonchalantly mentioning what they were going to do with Tonks when they got their hands on her, was enough to tip the scales.
Right. Option one it is, then.
Tonks repositioned herself into a crouch, ready to spring. She aimed her wand at some old netting hanging listlessly from the timbered ceiling and whispered a severing charm.
With a whoosh and a thump, the netting fell to the floor, and Tonks heard the Death Eaters whirl towards the distraction.
She hurled herself out from behind the crates -- nine meters -- seven --
There was a shout, and a jet of light, and she was slammed against the wall.
Her gaze swimming, Tonks pushed herself onward -- six -- five -- she raised her wand. Please, please, please, let it open..."Alohomora!"
It did. But after two more steps, as she tried to cast a Stunning Spell over her shoulder at them, and a jagged red light hit her squarely. Immediately, ice flooded through her veins, and she nearly doubled over.
The light from the doorway was so close. If she could just...get there...
