"Riiiight." He hands 'Dora a bulging stocking, his eyes sparkling.

"Does Sunny have a stocking?"

"I think she might," 'Dora replies thoughtfully. "And so do you," she adds, poking gently at her belly.

From:

She's literally bouncing.

"Please please please please ple--will open fo' Anfony," sidetracked. "No haf hands yet."

Oh dear. She's sidetracked again, staring at Dora's stomach, and then peers under her shirt. "Could put pwesents fwew belly button, Dora?"

From:

"There will be nothing else going in there, thank you very much," she replies firmly. "Only things coming out. Out.</i."

From:

Bernard bites his lip and unhooks two stockings. "Here's Anthony's." He sets it beside Sunny, and then shakes the other stocking experimentally.

"Hmmm. Sounds like coal to me."

From:

"...Coal cwunchy?" Curiously.

From:

"NO. Not crunchy at all. Um. Squishy, even!" Laughing, 'Dora beckons Bernard to sit. "Come on, let's stop torturing her."

From:

"Oh, fine." He gets his own stocking and gives Sunny hers, finally.

Contained within is an obscene amount of crunchy candies and nuts, a wealth of sparkly stickers, a few satsumas to protect against scurvy, and several Wizarding Christmas crackers.

Anthony's stocking has loads of little baby toys: rattles, gumming rings, and a little, stuffed, squashy Piglet.

Sunny's eyes glaze over.

Oh, you knew this was coming.

She goes CHOMP on one of the crackers.

From:

"Oh!" 'Dora scrambles, but it's too late -- the cracker pops in a shower of sparks, leaving a Very Festive Christmas Hat in its wake.

From:

...And the hat's in Sunny's teeth.

Bernard busts out laughing.

From:

She just blinks repeatedly, stunned.

"Ow?" she tries.

It didn't really hurt.

She just doesn't know how to react to that one.

(The hat has fallen to the floor.)

From:

Still laughing, Bernard leans over and kisses the crown of her head.

"You're okay."

From:

"Oh." She's still blinking.

"Want hat, Ber'd?"

Sunny can Share.

And that is very good to see.

"Thank you," he replies solemnly, and sets it on his head.

It clashes.

Severally.

From:

"Lovely." 'Dora approves. "Ooooh, and we've got things, too, sweetheart."

And, indeed, their stockings are full of many good things: fancy bags of tea for 'Dora, and gourmet coffees for Bernard; satsumas and pistachios; ice mice and toothflossing stringmints and Drooble's Best Blowing Gum; a whole bag of buttered popcorn Bertie Bott's for 'Dora, and a bag of grass ones for Bernard. Also, their own crackers.

Bernard's beaming by the time he gets to the bottom of his stocking.

He leans over and kisses his wife, whispering "Thanks" in her ear.

Got to keep up the Santa-ruse for the kid, of course.

She beams back, pleased, and kisses his cheek before he pulls back.

Then she sticks out a cracker for him to pull.

From:

He grins and pulls it warily.

A floppy pink hat with a feather in it comes out. He sets it on her head jauntily.

From:

"Oooooohh. I like it," 'Dora says approvingly, tugging lightly on the feather. "I think it really sets off my jammies."

From:

"Pwetty!" Sunny admires.

From:

"Always," Bernard confirms with a smile, and holds his cracker out.

From:

'Dora gives it a tug, laughing already, and a rather lovely bouquet of Biting Geraniums bursts out.

Don't worry. They just nibble a little.

Bernard hands them to Sunny.

About time she had a taste of her own medicine.
